Visit of H.E. Mr. Salaman Khurshid, Hon’ble External Affairs Minister for attend International Ministerial Conference on Syria (Geneva-II) in Montreux

1.External Affairs Minister (EAM), Mr. Salman Khurshid led the Indian delegation to the International Conference on Syria (Geneva II) held in Montreux, Switzerland on 22 Jan 2014. Mr.Anil Wadhwa, Secretary (East) ,Mr.VikasSwarup, Joint Secretary (UNP) and Mr. Sunjay Sudhir, JS(EAMO) accompanied EAM from India.
2.In his statement, EAM highlighted that the Geneva-II Ministerial Conference was a convergence of the positions of global and regional powers with India’s own consistently stated position of supporting a comprehensive political settlement of the crisis.He reiterated India’s support for an all-inclusive Syrian-led process to chart out the future of Syria, its political structures and leadership. He added that there could be NO military solution to the crisis. EAM emphasized that India was fully prepared to play its part in the peace process in any manner required of it, conscious of its larger regional and global responsibilities.
3.EAM also held bilateral meetings with his counterparts from Denmark, France, Japan, Jordan and USA on the sidelines of the Conference.
